A Broadcast Engineers job is to maintain, operate, repair, update and ensure that all hardware and systems broadcast across radio, television, interactive television, web casts and pod casts are delivered on time and are of the highest quality.
The work of a broadcast engineer takes place in a range of locations and work situations. In addition to studio work, there may be outside broadcasts, when live feeds need to be uploaded or updated. Broadcast Engineers generally work in a team with others including producers, studio managers, presenters and other technical staff. You might be involved in broadcasting, or you might focus on servicing the equipment.
Your nature of work might vary by location and media of distribution, but will typically involve designing, setting up and maintaining studio equipment and audio video circuits for transmission and editing, monitoring Audio Visual (AV) links between units in different locations. Analyzing and rectifying technical faults or equipment failures and rapidly implementing alternative methods to minimize any loss of service. It will also include vision mixing live programmes, as they are being transmitted or recorded.
