Audio Visual (AV) Technicians generally have a good understanding of many different equipment types and will often have to work with PA systems, lighting equipments, LCD projectors, plasma / LCD screens, sound systems, video conferencing, video cameras and image editing software, etc. The demand for Audio Visual (AV) services has rapidly grown over recent years with the increase in the use of multimedia display equipment at conferences, concert venues, art galleries, education and the hotel or corporate market.

 

Audio Visual (AV) Technicians can gain employment in many different ways but will mostly start working as a trainee or junior technician with an Audio Visual (AV) company. There are many specialist Audio Visual (AV) companies who will be contracted by their clients to provide Audio Visual support at their events. This will mean that Audio Visual (AV) Technicians will be responsible for setting up and operating equipment at a conference or event often held in a hotel / conference centre before packing up all the equipment and moving on to the next job. These can range from small meetings to large productions with audience sizes in the thousands.

 

Some Audio Visual (AV) Technicians will be based onsite on company premises to provide audio visual support within the building. Often large companies will have AV systems built-in to their conference and meeting rooms and the Audio Visual (AV) Technician will be responsible for ensuring that all the equipment works properly and will assist the users with their meeting requirements.

 

Working as an Audio Visual (AV) Technician can give you a good learning basis to gain experience with many different types of equipment. Many AV Technicians then go on to specialize in one or more types of work like working as a Sound Engineer or Lighting Technician, etc.
